Welcome to Nursing Homepage!

It is our sincere hope that you will be excited by the activities and initiatives being undertaken in the department. We also hope that it will offer you quality professional nursing education.

The Department of Nursing at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) has a history that dates back to October 1999. It started with the undergraduate course of the Bachelor of Nursing Science, BNSc, a four-year professional course leading to the award. It is the second university to offer undergraduate nursing programme in Uganda. The department has continued to expand steadily. It now has a Master of Nursing Science, MNSc programme. This is a two-year programme leading to the award of the professional nursing degree.

Presently the staff at the department is working on a third programme, the BNSc completion programme that is due for implementation the next academic year beginning October 2002/2003. Presently the department has ten (10) students. Nine of them are pursuing the undergraduate programme and one is on the Masters programme. We are set to expand our numbers ever further; the government has agreed to fund an additional ten (10) students into the undergraduate programme.

Mbarara University of Science and Technology strongly supports research and, consequently, the department of nursing has a very strong research program. We are committed to the provision of high quality teaching and community service as well as research to meet current and future workforce requirements of Uganda.

You are warmly invited to join us at the department of nursing, faculty of medicine at Mbarara University of Science and Technology. Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) offers unique opportunities for first class education, clinical and community experiences, and research undertakings in multiple practice settings. All these efforts combined together have continued to contribute immensely to the preparation of well-trained health care professionals.
